Rebecca Taylor gives a summary of the lesson plan she developed for composition-focused courses featuring Douglas Ishii’s “Literature, Language, Culture: A Dialogue Series” episode, “Crazy Rich Asians, Critical University Studies , and Queer of Color Theory”. Below you will find a link to the lesson plan. We encourage you to adapt it for yourself and your students. If you are using this video in an instructor training course, you can embed this video and attach the lesson plan, encouraging instructors to share their own adaptations. Through these lesson plans, we hope to expand the dialogue between the English Department and educators in college and language arts classrooms. A series of videos and podcasts, each episode of The Department of English Literature, Language, Culture highlights the research and teaching of a member of the department, as well as resources to support viewers’ learning. She has taught academic writing for most of the past decade, most recently in Hong Kong, where she was a founding member of the University of Hong K NGO’s Digital Literacy Lab. She also served as an English Fellow in Indonesia and, before that, an editor in Korea and Seattle. She also taught at Edmonds College, which stimulated her two-year interest in insight-centered scholarship, particularly in composition and writing studies. Broadly, her academic interests lie at the intersection of multimodal literacy, digital literacies, writing center pedagogy, and student composition.
