HK: Playing Tour Guide Pt.3
cre: HK: Playing Tour Guide Pt.3
Hi all! It’s been a few days since my last message. On Tuesday I decided to take my boyfriend to One Dim Sum. The plan was to explore Tsim Sha Tsui, so our first destination was Kowloon Park where we accidentally bumped into Animation Avenue. It was actually my favorite part of the day. Animation and cartoons play an important role in the history of Hong Kong. The exhibit featured a bunch of life-size cartoon characters popular throughout the year. There were even some that I remembered from my childhood. It was also free which makes it even better.
After that, we tried to visit the Avenue of Stars. Turns out it had been closed for renovations since 2015. However, the statues were moved a few blocks away, so I still got to see the iconic Bruce Lee statue. I made sure I had a photo for my dad who is a longtime fan of him.
En route to find the new location, we walked along Victoria Harbor. A common thing to do is take the Star Ferry across the river, which we ultimately didn’t because we ran out of time. We were able to go to Harbor City, a giant mall located in Tsim Sha Tsui. According to a site I found online, there are over 450 stores, 50 restaurants, two theaters and three hotels! We were only able to explore one of the floors, but I definitely intend to come back here to do some damage.
We ended our night with ramen from Butao Ramen. I ordered the Black King broth again while my boyfriend got the original version. It was as good as I remembered it.
As I had class the next day, we had breakfast in a place near our Airbnb. Their menu was in Chinese so we weren’t really sure what we ordered but got what the hostess recommended and it was good! It consisted of beef noodles and a fried egg with toast and a sausage which my boyfriend says is actually a hot dog.
I grabbed some soymilk from a nearby place that our Airbnb host recommended to me and continued on my way to class. After six grueling hours of class, I had dinner with my boyfriend at Pepper Lunch, located in Festival Walk. We then returned to Heart’s Dessert. I ordered the durian tofu pudding and my boyfriend tried the egg pudding. Both were amazing and worth a visit if you are in Sham Shui Po.
